Special Topics in Object Relations Seminar

Building on the basic tenets of object relations, this course will focus on more contemporary applications of the theory. Four topics, fundamental to the object relations approach to psychotherapy, will be discussed: the unconscious, transference, countertransference, and the nature of therapeutic action/effectiveness. Each topic will be considered from both an intrapsychic (i.e., as occuring just within the individual) and an intersubjective (i.e., as occuring within a relationship between two or more people) perspective, and the commonalties and differences between the two perspectives will be highlighted. Students will be invited to bring cases for feedback from the instructors and fellow students. Presented by James Poulton PhD and Colleen Sandor PhD.
